Introducing our first Instamum (and Joseph too!), real home stylist @kateandherhome

Writer: SarahSarah

Today we are spending the day with ... Kate and Joseph

Thank you Kate for being a part of the NurseryInspo Edit..Joseph is so scrumptious!! We're super excited to chat with you and to share your gorgeous home styling and tips for new mums!

So diving right in ...where did @kateandherhome all start?

I first started my Instagram account to document the progress we made to our new build home, which was a blank canvas.  We have gradually decorated our way through most of the rooms in our house and added personality, although there are still plenty of things that need to be done.  Our next project is to create a playroom for Joseph and all of his toys, I’m sure they multiply at night!  Since Joseph came into our lives, he’s been featuring more in my feed.  He makes us laugh so much, I have to share the funny tales with my followers who can all relate to life with a toddler!  Through your daily steps around your home we’d love to know..

How your day begins...

Alarm clocks are generally not needed in our house, as we’ll be woken up to the sound of Joseph chatting away in his cot (although thankfully not too early).  I love picking outfits for Joseph to wear each day, he’s got a great wardrobe!  Once we’re dressed, it’s time for breakfast.  I always make sure he has a healthy and balanced breakfast to start the day, and as he is so hungry he will eat it very quickly!

What’s your favourite space in your home right now?

Joseph’s bedroom is obviously one of my favourites, who wouldn’t love a room with a tepee and lots of toys?!  We enjoy playing and reading books together in here.  I wanted to make sure he enjoyed books from an early age so we have his books on display and accessible for him.  We didn’t know we were expecting a boy when decorating his bedroom, so I wanted to create a neutral space.  I was inspired by beautiful bedrooms on Instagram and found an independent business on Etsy who created vinyl wall art.  I purchased cloud vinyl stickers from Ledro Design and created a feature wall with them, they were so easy to apply.  The rest of the room is decorated with various grey and white accessories, although that is now shifting to more brighter colours now Joseph is a bit older.

Our en-suite is another favourite of mine, but this is for selfish reasons so I can enjoy a bit of time to pamper myself!

Where do you find your inspiration or time to think?

As a busy working mum, I don’t get much time to think!  However, once Joseph’s in bed I enjoy browsing Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration.  There are so many wonderful accounts and I’m always thinking of what I can do next!

As mum to Joseph what would be your top 3 nursery styling tips or your best baby buys? 1. Fabric laundry baskets are brilliant for storing away toys and restoring some order.  There are some great patterns and colours to complement the décor in your room.

2. Nursery furniture can be so expensive and doesn’t last long when your little one grows so quickly!  Instead of a purpose build changing unit, we used an IKEA Hemnes chest of drawers.  We added a changing mat on the top with some rug underlay from IKEA to stop it sliding.  Now he's older, we don't use it as a changing unit. The drawers have good capacity to store your baby essentials in and the unit will last for many years as he grows up.

3. A blackout blind or curtain is essential to maintain the bedtime routine during the summer months and prevent those early rises!

Thank you so much Kate! Best wishes to you, Joseph and your family!
